Making char Siew at home is never difficult though it takes some times. I chosen to grill it using my happy call pan. Make it even easier.
I used $8 worth of meat
Marinate the wu hua rou with 1/2 cup of hua diao jiu, garlic just crush it, 1/2tsp dark soya sauce ( mine is the very dark version) 2 tablespoon oyster sauce, some pepper, 2 tablespoon char Siew sauce. Marinate over the night or few hours in advance.
Slightly apply some oil on the pan.
Pan fry the meat on the pan. All sides.
After that add in all the sauce you used to marinate the meat. Add in some water.
Cook 10min Using middle flame, check and turns the meat to get it evenly absorbing the gravy. Then 5min x2times… now you can check the taste if you need it more salty? Once the gravy thicken, you can pour it out and leave a side as dip. Leave in some in the pan.
Slightly pan grill the meat till you are satisfy with the char.
Once your chopsticks can Poke in easily. Its done.
*** timing depends on your meat cuts.
Do take note, the char Siew will get saltier as it cooked as the gravy is absorbed. So adjust the taste slowly.. don’t get in a rush to add in more condiment when you question like tat got taste meh.
For people who are not interested in oink oink, you can use chicken breast, chicken thigh or wings… they tasted very fabulous too and finger licking good.
